League of Arab States strongly condemns continued Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon.

The official spokesperson for the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States condemned in the strongest terms the continued Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon, which have targeted civilians in Nabatieh and other neighbouring villages and towns since the morning of 15 August. The attacks constitute a flagrant violation of Lebanon's sovereignty and a dangerous escalation that threatens to derail efforts aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict and bringing the occupation to an end.

The spokesperson stated that these Israeli policies and practices blatantly reveal the occupying Power's intention to prolong the confrontation, obstruct negotiations and impose a new reality on the ground that is wholly unacceptable and rejected.
He warned of the risk of the situation spiralling into a broader confrontation unless the international community, particularly the United States, intervenes to immediately halt the Israeli war machine and compel Israel to comply with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.
