Mr. Nabil Fahmy Assumes His Duties as Secretary-General of the League of Arab States.
Mr. Nabil Fahmy assumed his duties as Secretary-General of the League of Arab States on 1 July during a formal handover ceremony held at the General Secretariat headquarters in Cairo. During the ceremony, Mr. Fahmy assumed office from Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, who thereby concluded his term as Secretary-General. The ceremony was attended by the Assistant Secretaries-General, together with a number of senior officials and staff members of the General Secretariat.

League Council expresses appreciation to Aboul Gheit upon conclusion of his term, welcomes appointment of Nabil Fahmy as new Secretary-General
The Council of the League of Arab States at the Ministerial Level, meeting in the Jordanian capital, Amman, on the evening of 22 June, expressed its profound appreciation and gratitude to His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League, on the conclusion of his term of office. The Council commended his dedicated service, as well as the wisdom and leadership he demonstrated in guiding joint Arab action during a period marked by unprecedented regional and international challenges.

Aboul Gheit welcomes announcement of US-Iran agreement on MoU
Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, welcomed the announcement of an agreement on a memorandum of understanding between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran, which is scheduled to be formally signed on 19 June, with the aim of achieving a sustainable ceasefire and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. He expressed his hope that this development would constitute an important step towards putting a definitive end to Iranian and Israeli attacks on Arab territories and creating conducive conditions for launching a process to end the war and achieve lasting stability in the region. He also warned against Israel’s continued efforts to undermine the agreement and perpetuate a state of permanent conflict.
