General Secretariat convenes 17th General Cooperation Meeting between the League and UN

The League of Arab States and the United Nations are convening the 17th General Cooperation Meeting between the two organisations from 27 to 29 July at the United Nations Office in Geneva, with the participation of senior officials from both organisations, as well as representatives of their respective specialised institutions and agencies. The meeting forms part of the longstanding strategic partnership and cooperation between the League and the United Nations and reflects their commitment to strengthening cooperation across areas of mutual interest.

The League of Arab States and the United Nations are convening the 17th General Cooperation Meeting between the two organisations from 27 to 29 July at the United Nations Office in Geneva, with the participation of senior officials from both organisations, as well as representatives of their respective specialised institutions and agencies.

The meeting forms part of the longstanding strategic partnership and cooperation between the League and the United Nations and reflects their commitment to strengthening cooperation across areas of mutual interest.

The delegation of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States will be headed by His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Khaled bin Mohamed Manzalawi, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the International Political Affairs Sector.

Participants will discuss ways to build on the achievements of the 16th General Cooperation Meeting and review progress made in implementing agreed areas of joint action.

They will also explore prospects for strengthening cooperation across a range of priorities, including peace and security, sustainable development, human rights, food and water security, the Women, Peace and Security agenda, the Youth, Peace and Security agenda, and the prevention of armed conflict, with a view to supporting regional stability and achieving sustainable peace.

The meeting will also address key regional issues of priority, foremost among them the Palestinian question, as well as developments in Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, and Libya.

The meeting reflects the commitment of both organisations to further advancing their strategic cooperation and strengthening coordination on issues of mutual concern, thereby contributing to international peace and security, advancing sustainable development, and enabling a more effective response to the challenges facing the region and the wider world.
