General Secretariat commemorates Arab Sustainability Day

The League of Arab States commemorates Arab Sustainability Day (16 February) under the theme “The Path of Sustainable Development: A Decade of Achievements,” highlighting regional progress, strengthened partnerships, and the continued commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals and the Arab Vision 2045.

The League of Arab States commemorates Arab Sustainability Day on 16 February at the headquarters of the General Secretariat under the theme: "The Path of Sustainable Development: A Decade of Achievements."

This year's observance will feature a special tribute to His Excellency Mr Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, in recognition of his leadership and steadfast support for Arab efforts in the field of sustainable development, as well as his sustained commitment to strengthening effective partnerships among all stakeholders and launching qualitative initiatives culminating in the adoption of the Arab Vision 2045.

A number of prominent Arab figures active in the field of sustainable development across the region will also be honoured, foremost among them His Excellency Sheikh Faisal bin Saud Al Qasimi, Supreme President of the Arab Network for Creativity and Innovation; Dr Heba El-Sewedy, Founder and Chair of the Board of Trustees of Ahl Masr Foundation; Dr Mostafa Hodeib, President of the Arab Academy for Administrative, Financial and Banking Sciences; and Dr Salem bin Rukadh Al Ameri, Chairman of the Board of the Emirates Cancer Society.

The ceremony will further pay tribute to the late Karim Badr El-Din, head of the Organising Committee of the Arab Youth Platform for Development, as well as to the young media professional Mr Mohamed Gamal, Official Spokesperson of the Arab Youth Platform for Sustainable Development and Acting Secretary-General of the Platform.

Engineer Talal Al-Rasheed, Chairman of the Friends of the Environment Society in Saudi Arabia, will receive a special recognition on behalf of the Society in appreciation of its environmental efforts in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The programme will also include a panel discussion entitled "The Contributions of Civil Society Institutions to Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in the Arab States."
