Aboul Gheit welcomes announcement of US-Iran agreement on MoU

Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, welcomed the announcement of an agreement on a memorandum of understanding between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran, which is scheduled to be formally signed on 19 June, with the aim of achieving a sustainable ceasefire and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. He expressed his hope that this development would constitute an important step towards putting a definitive end to Iranian and Israeli attacks on Arab territories and creating conducive conditions for launching a process to end the war and achieve lasting stability in the region. He also warned against Israel’s continued efforts to undermine the agreement and perpetuate a state of permanent conflict.
