Aboul Gheit receives Secretary-General of the Hague Conference on Private International Law

Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit received on 10 March Christophe Bernasconi, Secretary-General of the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH), during his official visit to the headquarters of the League of Arab States to sign a memorandum of understanding between the two organisations.

Gamal Rushdi, the official spokesperson for the Secretary-General, stated that Mr. Aboul Gheit stressed the importance of the role played by the organisation as a leading international reference in the unification of private international law rules and in coordinating efforts to develop conventions, protocols, and practical mechanisms that contribute to the protection of children and families and address issues related to conflicts of laws.
Mr. Aboul Gheit also noted that today’s world no longer recognises rigid boundaries in the movement of individuals, capital, and investments, and that private international law plays an important role in facilitating commercial and investment relations and protecting individuals across borders.

The spokesperson added that the Secretary-General of the Hague Conference on Private International Law presented a brief overview to the League Secretary-General on the organisation’s activities and expressed his keenness to establish a partnership with the League of Arab States through the signing of the memorandum of understanding, which represents an important institutional step towards deepening cooperation, exchanging expertise, harmonising rules, and strengthening mutual trust.
