The Arab League concludes its participation in the work of the 2026 World Summit of Governments.

The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States concluded his participation in the World Governments Summit 2026, highlighting the role of artificial intelligence in government administration, regional leadership, and Arab–international cooperation for future-oriented governance.

Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, concluded on 4 February his participation in the World Governments Summit, which commenced on 3 February and is scheduled to close on 5 February.

The Summit is held under the theme “Shaping Future Governments,” with the participation of a large number of heads of government, decision-makers, and experts from across the world.

Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesperson for the Secretary-General, said that Mr. Aboul Gheit had played an active role in the Summit’s proceedings.

He noted that the Secretary-General inaugurated earlier on 4 February the fifth session of the Arab Government Administration Forum, which was held under the theme “Artificial Intelligence Applications in Government Administration.” On that occasion, he delivered an important address on the impact of artificial intelligence and its applications on the work and performance of Arab governments, stressing that it has become a field of profound importance and vitality, permeating all aspects of contemporary life.

The spokesperson pointed out that the Secretary-General highlighted the far-reaching influence of artificial intelligence, in its various models, on governmental operations and decision-making mechanisms, driven by the new ideas and advanced technologies underpinning its diverse applications across all sectors.

He also referred to the strong determination of many Arab states to keep pace with the rapid developments and sweeping transformations taking place worldwide, and to harness their latent and still underutilised capabilities and potential.

This determination, he added, has been reflected in these states’ ability to achieve a qualitative leap and attain advanced rankings on the Global Artificial Intelligence Index.

The spokesperson further stated that Mr. Aboul Gheit also took part in two panel discussions.

The first, entitled “The Arab Region and the Coming Decade,” addressed the challenges and opportunities facing the Arab world in light of current global developments.

The second, titled “How Leadership Creates Sustainable Impact for Excellence,” saw the Secretary-General highlight the partnership between the League of Arab States and the United Arab Emirates through the Arab Government Excellence Award, which seeks to support institutional transformation in government work, from an approach centred on “celebrating achievement” to one focused on “creating impact” through results, and on translating best practices into standardised, scalable steps and procedures applicable across the Arab world.

In addition, the Secretary-General held a number of important bilateral meetings and media engagements during his participation in the Summit’s activities.
