The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Receives the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, H E Mr Nabil Fahmy, received today, Monday, 17 August 2026, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat, Dr. Hani Sewilam, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

The two sides discussed a number of issues related to water resources and ways to strengthen Arab cooperation in the field of water security.

The Official Spokesperson for the Secretary-General stated that Nabil Fahmy stressed that achieving sustainable water security is one of the foremost priorities of Arab national security, given that the Arab region is among the areas most affected by water scarcity, as well as by drought, desertification, and rising temperatures.

The Spokesperson added that the Secretary-General emphasized that successfully addressing these challenges requires concerted collective action based on strengthening cooperation and building on the common interests shared among Arab States to confront the growing challenges related to water security.

In this context, the Official Spokesperson noted that both sides reaffirmed the importance of enhancing Arab coordination in international water-related forums.

The meeting also reviewed the ongoing preparations for upcoming Arab and international water events, beginning with Cairo Water Week next October, including key events to be held on its sidelines, such as the 17th Session of the Arab Ministerial Water Council and the 7th Arab Water Conference, followed by the United Nations Water Conference, scheduled to take place next December in Abu Dhabi, and culminating in the 11th World Water Forum, which is set to be held in Riyadh in 2027.

The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing to continue coordination and consultations during the coming period in support of Arab efforts to address water-related challenges and promote the sustainable management of water resources.
