The Mission of the League of Arab States in Madrid announces with profound sorrow the passing of its Chief, Ambassador Dr. Malek Twal, who passed away today while serving as Chief of the Mission, following a distinguished career devoted to the service of his country and to diplomacy.

Ambassador Dr. Malek Twal served as Chief of the Mission of the League of Arab States in Madrid since 1 November 2021. During his tenure, he represented the League of Arab States before the Kingdom of Spain and worked with dedication and professionalism to strengthen the ties of friendship and cooperation between the Arab world and Spain, promote dialogue and mutual understanding with Spanish governmental, diplomatic, academic and cultural institutions, and advance Arab causes in international forums.

Before assuming his duties in Madrid, Ambassador Dr. Twal held a number of senior diplomatic and governmental positions in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Throughout his distinguished career, he earned widespread respect and recognition for his professionalism, integrity and unwavering commitment to public service.

With his passing, the Mission has lost an exceptional Chief and diplomat whose leadership and dedication left a lasting mark on its work. His contribution to strengthening the Mission's role and fostering closer relations with Spain will be remembered with deep respect and appreciation by his colleagues and by all those who had the privilege of working with him.
