The official spokesperson for the Secretary-General said the meeting featured an extensive exchange of views on developments concerning the Palestinian cause.
The Secretary-General welcomed the important evolution in the UK position, particularly its recognition of the State of Palestine, and stressed the importance of building on this step through a more active and decisive political role.
Such efforts, he said, should contribute to bringing an end to the ongoing Israeli attacks and violations in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, ensuring an Israeli withdrawal and unimpeded access for humanitarian assistance, and enabling Palestinian institutions to assume their responsibilities in a manner that preserves the prospects for the two-State solution and creates the conditions for the establishment of an independent Palestinian State.

The spokesperson added that the Secretary-General stressed that Israel's continued grave and repeated violations of international law and international humanitarian law, in the absence of accountability or any effective deterrent, no longer constitute a threat to the Palestinian people alone, but have become a direct challenge to the credibility of the international system as a whole.
He warned that the growing erosion of respect for the rules and norms of international law, and their selective application or disregard for violations, risks entrenching the primacy of force over law, undermining the foundations of the international order and weakening its capacity to maintain international peace and security.

The two sides also exchanged views on developments in the Arab Gulf.
