Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Receives Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad

Mr Nabil Fahmy, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, received today, Monday, 6 July 2026, Dr Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad of the Arab Republic of Egypt, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States.

At the outset of the meeting, the Egyptian Foreign Minister congratulated the Secretary-General on officially assuming his duties as of 1 July 2026.

He expressed Egypt's pride in the Arab consensus that supported the appointment of Mr. Nabil Fahmy as Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, noting that it reflects the confidence placed in his distinguished diplomatic experience and his ability to lead the General Secretariat during the coming period.

He also reaffirmed Egypt's continued support for the League of Arab States and its pivotal role as the principal framework for joint Arab action.

For his part, the Secretary-General expressed his deep appreciation for Dr Badr Abdelatty's visit, noting that it was the first visit by a Minister of Foreign Affairs to the headquarters of the League of Arab States since he assumed office.

He also expressed his appreciation for this initiative, which reflects Egypt's continued support for the League and its role in strengthening joint Arab action.

During the meeting, the Secretary-General also outlined his vision and priorities for the next phase, including initiatives to reform and enhance the institutional performance of the General Secretariat, strengthen the efficiency of its working mechanisms, and improve the League's overall effectiveness so that it may fulfil its mandate to the fullest extent.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister expressed his appreciation for this vision and reaffirmed Egypt's support for the reform and development efforts aimed at strengthening the role of the League of Arab States and serving the interests of its Member States.

The meeting also addressed the main regional developments, particularly the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, Lebanon and Sudan, as well as recent developments in the negotiating track between the United States and Iran.

Both sides stressed the importance of continuing efforts to reduce tensions, safeguard the security of the Arab Gulf States, and ensure the security and freedom of navigation in accordance with the rules of international law.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides underscored the importance of maintaining close consultation and coordination between the General Secretariat and the Member States during the coming period in order to strengthen joint Arab action, support security and stability in the region, and advance shared Arab interests.
