Secretary-General of the League of Arab States condemns targeting of UAE oil tanker in Strait of Hormuz, holds Iran responsible for escalation

H E Mr Nabil Fahmy, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, condemned the Iranian targeting of a UAE oil tanker transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday morning.

H E Mr Fahmy described the attack as the latest in a series of Iranian violations of the principle of freedom of navigation and the safety of maritime routes.

He stressed that such aggressive conduct constitutes a violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions, foremost among them Resolution 2817, which upholds freedom of navigation and prohibits attacks on commercial vessels.

The Secretary-General of the League held Tehran fully responsible for these attacks against Arab assets, which contravene established international principles governing freedom of navigation and the safety of waterways, warning that they would have far-reaching implications for the security and stability of the region.
