Nabil Fahmy Welcomes the Statement by the Eight Countries and Calls for a Unified and Clear Position on Israel’s Actions and Its Attempts to Undermine the Roadmap.

The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, H E Mr Nabil Fahmy, welcomed the statement issued yesterday by eight Arab and Islamic countries condemning Israel's declared rejection of the Roadmap aimed at completing the comprehensive plan to end the conflict in Gaza.

H E Mr Fahmy stressed that the position of the occupying Power and its Prime Minister reveals a clear intention to undermine all mediation efforts and consolidate the current situation in Gaza, thereby perpetuating the policy of daily killings, expanding the occupation, and preventing any meaningful response to the inhumane conditions endured by more than two million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip over the past three years.

He stated that the Israeli Prime Minister is driven by clear domestic political considerations and that his publicly declared positions demonstrate disregard for the will of the international community, as reflected in the Peace Plan, United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803, and the subsequent arrangements reached by the mediators.

These arrangements include the confinement of Hamas' weapons in parallel with the Israeli withdrawal, the deployment of an International Stabilization Force, and the transfer of administrative authority to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza.

H E Mr Fahmy emphasized that Hamas' acceptance of these arrangements, contrasted with the occupying Power's failure to honour its commitments, places full responsibility on Israel.

It also places a moral and political responsibility on the international community particularly the United States, the agreement's sponsoring party since last October to exert pressure on the party that is obstructing the agreement and failing to fulfil its obligations, in order to move immediately to the second phase of the Peace Plan.

The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States further explained that the occupying Power seeks to impose its will not only on the Palestinian people but on the international community as a whole, envisioning agreements that impose obligations on only one party while assuming none itself, whether to halt the killings or to withdraw from the territories it has occupied in the Gaza Strip, a position that is incompatible with any reasonable standard.

H E Mr Fahmy called on all States that continue to believe in the two-State solution as the only path to resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict to adopt a unified and unequivocal position towards Israel's extremist government, whose Prime Minister has openly declared his rejection of the principle of the establishment of a Palestinian State, so that the occupying Power understands that its disregard for the will of the international community will not come without consequences.
