League of Arab States Secretary-General meets with UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator in New York

His Excellency Mr Nabil Fahmy, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, met on 20 September with Mr Tom Fletcher, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, during his participation in the high-level meetings of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Mr Fahmy was briefed on the United Nations’ humanitarian efforts, particularly those aimed at alleviating the impact of crises in various parts of the Arab region, foremost among them the Gaza Strip, Sudan and Somalia.

Mr Fahmy stressed the need to pool efforts to alleviate the suffering of people affected by deteriorating humanitarian conditions in areas facing humanitarian crises, He expressed the League of Arab States’ readiness to cooperate with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), and to support efforts that contributes to improving humanitarian conditions across the region.

The two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation and coordination in order to address deteriorating humanitarian conditions in various parts of the Arab region.
