​The official spokesperson for the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States condemned the Iranian targeting of two vessels belonging to the United Arab Emirates while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on the evening of 13 August, describing the incident as a flagrant and unacceptable violation of international law and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817.

The spokesperson noted that the repeated Iranian violations pose a direct threat to freedom of maritime navigation, while also carrying serious implications for international trade and global energy security.

The spokesperson stressed the need to respect the principles of international law and the Law of the Sea, and called on Iran to cease such escalatory actions and refrain from any practices that could threaten the security and safety of maritime navigation.
