League affirms at Rome's Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution that peace is an international responsibility requiring political and economic guarantees.

​His Excellency Ambassador Dr Fayed Mustafa, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Sector at the League of Arab States, represented the League at the 10th meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, hosted in the Italian capital, Rome.

The Alliance convened two working sessions: the first at expert level, and the second with the participation of Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, and Palestinian Foreign Minister Varsen Aghabekian Shahin.

Ambassador Mustafa participated in both sessions and addressed the meeting in the context of the League of Arab States and the European Union's co-chairmanship of Working Group 8 on "Peace Day Effort". He outlined the League's vision of the role the international community should play in supporting a just and comprehensive peace through an integrated package of political, economic and security guarantees designed to enhance the prospects for a successful two-State solution and ensure its sustainability.

In his remarks, Ambassador Mustafa stressed that peace cannot be achieved merely through reaching a political agreement, but requires genuine international resolve translated into practical commitments and concrete measures that address the root causes of the conflict and provide the Palestinian people with a clear political horizon that ends the occupation and leads to the establishment of their independent State on the borders of 4 June 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He noted that current circumstances require the international community to move beyond crisis management towards ending the conflict, warning that the continuation of Israeli aggression and unilateral measures, including settlement activity, annexation of land and the undermining of the two-State solution, erodes prospects for peace and threatens security and stability throughout the region.

Ambassador Mustafa further noted that the successful implementation of the "Peace Day Effort" requires broad international support for a package of incentives and guarantees accompanying the implementation of a peace agreement.

These should encompass economic support and reconstruction, enhanced regional cooperation, and the necessary political and security guarantees, thereby making peace a sustainable and viable option for all parties.

Ambassador Mustafa commended the level of cooperation and coordination between the League of Arab States and the European Union in their co-chairmanship of Working Group 8, asserting that the partnership reflects a shared conviction that achieving a just and lasting peace requires coordinated collective action and international political will commensurate with the scale of the challenges facing the region.

He concluded by reaffirming that the League of Arab States will continue working with all international partners to translate the outcomes of the Global Alliance into concrete steps that contribute to ending the Israeli occupation, establishing an independent Palestinian State, and achieving a just and comprehensive peace in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative.
