League's Secretary-General Aboul Gheit condemns Iranian attacks on Oman's Port of Duqm and oil tanker off its coast

Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, strongly condemned the targeting of the Port of Duqm in the Sultanate of Oman and an oil tanker off its coast by Iranian missiles, expressing his denunciation of attacks on facilities in a state that has exerted, and continues to exert, significant, serious, and widely recognised efforts in mediation aimed at reaching peaceful solutions between Iran and the United States.

The Secretary-General expressed his appreciation for the Sultanate’s role and its active diplomacy in this highly important file.

Moreover, Mr. Aboul Gheit renewed his condemnation of the Iranian attacks and assaults targeting civilian facilities in Arab Gulf states, stressing that they constitute an unacceptable violation of sovereignty and a breach of international law and international humanitarian law through the targeting of civilian objects and the endangerment of civilian lives.

Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesperson for the Secretary-General, stated that Mr. Aboul Gheit warned of the consequences of the erratic and uncontrolled nature of Iranian military decision-making, and of the repercussions this could have on the security of individuals and facilities, as well as on maritime security and energy supplies in the region.

He considered the launch of a large number of missiles and drones targeting civilian facilities in several Arab states to be a rejected and condemnable policy in every respect, which cannot be justified under any pretext.

Mr. Aboul Gheit reaffirmed full solidarity with all concerned Arab states in any measures they may take to preserve their sovereignty, security, and stability.
