The official spokesperson stated that the Secretary-General was briefed by Mr. Shannar on the repercussions of Israel’s recent policies against Palestinian banks, in flagrant violation of the Paris Protocol signed in 1994, with the aim of strangling the Palestinian economy, severing its links with the outside world, and undermining its ability to conduct external transactions, including the import of essential goods and the provision of electricity and water services.
He also highlighted Israel’s withholding of clearance revenues owed to the Palestinian side, with the total amount withheld exceeding USD 6 billion.

The Secretary-General expressed his full support for Palestine in confronting what he described as a clear Israeli plan targeting the Palestinian Authority, seeking to undermine its capabilities and further tighten restrictions on Palestinian citizens.

He stressed the need for the international community to recognise that the occupation continues to wage a full-fledged economic war against the State of Palestine, following the genocide it has perpetrated in Gaza, and that the agenda of the extremist settler right is using the economy as a weapon to exert pressure on the Palestinian people.
