H. E. Sr. Nabil Fahmy meets with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan

H. E. ​Mr. Nabil Fahmy, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, met with Mr. Hakan Fidan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey on 13 August.

The official spokesperson for the Secretary-General said the meeting addressed the latest regional and international developments, as well as ways to strengthen cooperation between the League of Arab States and Turkey.

The Secretary-General reaffirmed the League's steadfast rejection of Israeli policies and practices and the grave violations committed against the Palestinian people.

He emphasised the need to halt the attacks and ensure full implementation of the ceasefire agreement in all its phases.

Mr. Fahmy underscored that ending the occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian State remain indispensable foundations for achieving peace and stability in the region.

The spokesperson added that the two sides agreed on the importance of sustained Arab-Islamic coordination on this issue to maximise international pressure to consolidate the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and ensure the continued flow of humanitarian assistance.

They further agreed that the ongoing process should lead to a full withdrawal and a genuine political horizon based on the two-State solution.

The Secretary-General also received the Turkish Foreign Minister's assessment of the situation in Libya, following his visit to Tripoli and Benghazi, which concluded on 12 August.

Mr Fahmy reaffirmed the League's position in support of Libya's unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, the preservation of state institutions and an end to the country's division.

He noted the importance of advancing an intra-Libyan political process, supported by United Nations efforts, leading to a comprehensive and sustainable settlement and culminating in the holding of elections and the unification of state institutions.
