H. E. Mr. Nabil Fahmy receives Sudanese Foreign Minister on the sidelines of the Ministerial Session

His Excellency Mr Nabil Fahmy, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, received on the morning of 7 September Mr Mohieddin Salem, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Sudan, who is heading his country’s delegation to the 166th Ordinary Session of the League Council at the Ministerial Level, being held at the General Secretariat headquarters.

The official spokesperson for the Secretary-General said that the meeting reviewed developments in Sudan.

Mr. Fahmy emphasised the League of Arab States’ longstanding position in support of the stability of the Sudanese state and its institutions, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

The spokesperson added that Mr Salem reviewed hid assessment of the military situation on the ground, as well as the latest developments concerning efforts to create a conducive environment for intra-Sudanese dialogue.

Mr Fahmy stressed the need for the international community to fulfil its role in finding a political solution to the crisis that meets the aspirations of the Sudanese people for security, stability and development.

He also underscored the need to intensify international efforts to address the humanitarian needs of the Sudanese people and facilitate the delivery of assistance to those affected.

Mr Salem lauded the League of Arab States’ continued support for Sudan and its people, as well as the role the League is playing within the framework of the Quintet Mechanism.

He affirmed that the Secretary-General’s efforts are highly appreciated in Sudan and expressed his hope that this sustained support would continue.

The Sudanese Minister also conveyed to the Secretary-General an invitation from General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, Chairman of the Sovereignty Council, to visit Khartoum.

Mr Fahmy welcomed the invitation, expressing appreciation for the Minister, A date for the visit would be determined at a later stage.
