H. E. Mr. Nabil Fahmy participates in joint Ministerial Meeting between the League and Organisation of Islamic Cooperation on Jerusalem

His Excellency Mr Nabil Fahmy, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, participated in the joint Ministerial Meeting between the League of Arab States and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation on Jerusalem, held on the sidelines of the high-level meetings of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, with broad high-level participation from Arab and Islamic States.

Addressing the meeting, the Secretary-General reiterated his categorical rejection of any attempts to alter the geographic and demographic realities in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

He condemned Israel’s daily practices and policies, which reflect its efforts to alter the identity, character and legal and historical status of Jerusalem.

Mr Fahmy referred to the statement issued by the Council of the League of Arab States at the Ministerial Level during its session held earlier this month on the situation in the occupied Arab territories.

He conveyed a message to the United Nations Security Council and the international community that it was necessary to move beyond condemnation to concrete action and assume responsibility for protecting Jerusalem and its holy sites, obliging Israel to halt all settlement and expansionist activities, forced displacement, and the plundering and confiscation of land.

The Secretary-General warned of the grave consequences of Israel’s continued provocative practices and policies and its disregard for Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
