H. E. Mr. Nabil Fahmy meets with Lebanon's Prime Minister in New York

His Excellency Mr Nabil Fahmy, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, met with Nawaf Salam, Prime Minister of the Lebanese Republic, on the sidelines of his participation in the high-level meetings of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The meeting addressed developments in Lebanon and the efforts being undertaken by the Lebanese Government to safeguard security and stability in the country and consolidate the state’s sovereignty over all Lebanese territory.

Mr Fahmy renewed his condemnation of the continuing Israeli attacks and persistent violations of Lebanon’s sovereignty, calling on relevant members of the international community and the United Nations Security Council to exert pressure on Israel to halt these practices and oblige it to fully comply with Security Council Resolution 1701.

The Secretary-General also reaffirmed the League of Arab States’ support for the Lebanese state’s efforts to extend its authority throughout its territory, end the Israeli occupation and ensure that weapons remain exclusively in the hands of the state.

He expressed the League’s solidarity with Lebanon and its people, as well as its support for Lebanese national cohesion and consensus during this critical and difficult phase, with a view to achieving recovery and restoring security and stability.
