H. E. Mr. Nabil Fahmy meets with Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira

H. E. Mr. Nabil Fahmy, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, convened with Mr. Mauro Vieira, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, on 25 September on the sidelines of the high-level meetings of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The Secretary-General affirmed the Arab side’s appreciation of the deep historical and cultural ties between the Arab world and Brazil, commending the development of Arab-Brazilian friendship under the leadership of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, as well as Brazil’s steadfast commitment to multilateralism and multilateral action at a time when the international system and its underlying rules are facing unprecedented pressures.

Mr. Fahmy also praised Brazil’s positions in support of the Palestinian cause, particularly with regard to the war on the Gaza Strip.

The meeting addressed ways of strengthening cooperation between the two sides, The Secretary-General expressed his interest in convening the fifth meeting of the Political Consultations Mechanism between the League of Arab States and the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Brasília.

Minister Vieira invited the Secretary-General to visit Brazil, an invitation warmly welcomed by Mr Fahmy, who affirmed his keenness to accept it at a mutually agreed date.
