H. E. Mr. Nabil Fahmy condemns the Iranian missile attack on the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and warns against the region sliding into an open war

H. E. Mr Nabil Fahmy, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, condemned the Iranian attack on the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan with ballistic missiles, in a flagrant violation of Jordan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and a serious threat to the security and stability of the region, warning that the continuation of the growing wave of Iranian escalation against the Gulf States and a number of Arab States threatens to plunge the entire region once again into an open war that would undermine any diplomatic effort aimed at containing the escalation through negotiation.

His Excellency Mr Nabil Fahmy, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, condemned the Iranian attack on the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan with ballistic missiles, in a flagrant violation of Jordan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and a serious threat to the security and stability of the region, warning that the continuation of the growing wave of Iranian escalation against the Gulf States and a number of Arab States threatens to plunge the entire region once again into an open war that would undermine any diplomatic effort aimed at containing the escalation through negotiation.

The Secretary-General added that the continuation of this reckless Iranian conduct and the attempt to expand the fronts of conflict would entrench hostilities with the Arab neighbouring countries for decades to come, in addition to its serious repercussions for the regional security system.

He stressed that the security and stability of the Arab Gulf States and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan are an indivisible part of Arab national security, calling on Iran to immediately halt this escalation, abandon its hostile policy towards the Arab States, resort to reason, and abide by the principles of good neighbourliness and the relevant international conventions.

The Secretary-General renewed the League of Arab States’ full solidarity with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, its support for Jordan and for all measures it takes to preserve its sovereignty and safeguard its security and stability.
