H. E. Mr. Nabil Fahmy calls for Israel to be held accountable for its brutal and illegal actions in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

H E Mr Nabil Fahmy, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, condemned in the strongest terms the brutal Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, which targeted tents housing displaced persons and residential apartments, resulting in dozens of deaths and injuries.

Fahmy stressed that the Israeli bombardment, which is also accompanied by an expanded military campaign in the West Bank involving demolition operations and arrest campaigns in several cities, reflects a clear Israeli attempt to undermine the roadmap announced two days ago as a basis for moving to the second phase of the ceasefire agreement, beginning to put an end to the suffering of Palestinians in the Strip, and achieving the Israeli withdrawal.

The Secretary-General of the League emphasised the need to hold Israel fully accountable for its violations against the Palestinians and for its blatant attempt to thwart mediation efforts.

He stressed that Israel should not be allowed to achieve its objectives of prolonging and expanding the occupation in Gaza in implementation of clear and overt domestic agendas espoused by the leaders and figures of the occupation.
