H. E. Mr. Nabil Fahmy discusses cooperation with Maltese Foreign Minister in New York

His Excellency Mr Nabil Fahmy, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, met with Dr Chris Fearne, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Malta, on the sidelines of the high-level meetings of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

During the meeting, Mr Fahmy welcomed Malta’s positions in support of Arab causes, foremost among them the Palestinian cause, He commended Malta’s recognition of the State of Palestine and its steadfast support for the two-State solution, as well as its constructive role during its previous term on the United Nations Security Council in supporting efforts to address the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.

The two sides discussed ways of expanding and strengthening Arab-European cooperation across various fields, They also exchanged views on developments in the region and the ongoing escalation in the Red Sea, Mr Fahmy emphasised the close interdependence of Arab and European interests, affirming the need to respect international law and abide by its rules as the framework for safeguarding security and stability and protecting freedom of navigation and the safety of maritime routes.
