H. E. el Sr. Nabil Fahmy meets with President of 81st UN General Assembly

His Excellency Mr Nabil Fahmy, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, met with Mr Khalil Al-Rahman, President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, on the sidelines of his participation in the high-level meetings of the Session, held in New York.

Mr Fahmy opened the meeting by congratulating the President of the General Assembly on assuming his post, expressing his hope that the current session would devote greater attention to the issues and crises facing the Arab region.

He emphasised the importance of the role played by the General Assembly as the most broadly representative forum within the international system.

The Secretary-General affirmed that the escalation across the region, the continuing humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip, and Israeli violations in the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem require the General Assembly to assume its responsibility to uphold international law and defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of States, He also asserted the importance of building on the current international momentum in support of the two-State solution.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to exchange views on a number of regional and international issues, Mr Fahmy listened to an overview from the President of the General Assembly of the priorities of the current Session and the key issues on the international agenda.
