League Secretary-General Aboul Gheit strongly condemns Israel's barbaric attacks on Lebanon, accuses Israel of seeking to sabotage ceasefire agreement

Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, condemned in the strongest terms the unprecedented and barbaric Israeli attacks on Lebanon, which have resulted in the deaths and injuries of hundreds of innocent civilians, in a flagrant violation and grave breach of all international laws.

The Secretary-General accused Israel of persistently seeking to sabotage the ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran.

Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesperson for the Secretary-General, stated that at a time when the international community is exerting intensive efforts to end the war, and the region looks towards a calm that could lead to a sustainable settlement, Israel continues to play an obstructive role to any understandings that may contribute to restoring stability.

He noted that its systematic and overt policy seeks to inflame the situation through Lebanon, and potentially derail any efforts aimed at restoring security and stability in the region.

The spokesperson reiterated the League of Arab States’ call, in accordance with the declaration issued by the Council of the League of Arab States on 29 March, for influential international actors to exert pressure on Israel to immediately halt its condemned attacks on Lebanon and to implement the relevant international resolutions.

He also reaffirmed the League’s solidarity with Lebanon and its people in overcoming this difficult phase.
