League Council expresses appreciation to Aboul Gheit upon conclusion of his term, welcomes appointment of Nabil Fahmy as new Secretary-General

The Council of the League of Arab States at the Ministerial Level, meeting in the Jordanian capital, Amman, on the evening of 22 June, expressed its profound appreciation and gratitude to His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League, on the conclusion of his term of office. The Council commended his dedicated service, as well as the wisdom and leadership he demonstrated in guiding joint Arab action during a period marked by unprecedented regional and international challenges.

The Council of the League of Arab States at the Ministerial Level, meeting in the Jordanian capital, Amman, on the evening of 22 June, expressed its profound appreciation and gratitude to His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League, on the conclusion of his term of office.

The Council commended his dedicated service, as well as the wisdom and leadership he demonstrated in guiding joint Arab action during a period marked by unprecedented regional and international challenges.

The Council also approved the appointment of Nabil Fahmy as the new Secretary-General of the League of Arab States for a five-year term commencing on 1 July.

It extended its best wishes for his success in carrying out the responsibilities of his new position and expressed confidence in his diplomatic experience and ability to further advance joint Arab action and address the challenges facing the Arab world.

The Council further praised the pivotal role played by Mr. Aboul Gheit in defending core Arab causes, foremost among them the Palestinian cause, and in preserving the standing of the League of Arab States as the collective home of the Arab nations and the principal framework for their cooperation and coordination.
