His Excellency Mr Nabil Fahmy, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, strongly condemned the continued escalation by the Houthi militia, including attacks on a number of civilian and economic facilities and sites in cities across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which resulted in injuries among civilians.

He also condemned the militia’s continued targeting of commercial vessels in the Red Sea and its threats to the freedom of international maritime navigation.

His Excellency Mr Fahmy emphasised that these attacks constitute an unequivocal and wholly unacceptable assault on the security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the safety of its citizens and residents.

The Secretary-General expressed his full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and reaffirmed the League of Arab States' support for the Kingdom in confronting any threat to its security, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He also expressed support for the legitimate measures taken by the Kingdom to protect its citizens and national interests.

He renewed his affirmation that the security of Saudi Arabia constitutes a fundamental pillar of the Arab national security system, and that the security and stability of the Arab Gulf states are integral to the security and stability of the Arab region as a whole.

His Excellency Mr Fahmy affirmed that the continuation of Houthi escalation, including attacks against Saudi Arabia and threats to maritime navigation in the Red Sea, represents an extremely serious development, with far-reaching implications for regional security and stability.

Such actions constitute flagrant violations of the rules of international law, international humanitarian law, the Charter of the United Nations and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, as well as a blatant challenge to relevant Security Council resolutions, foremost among them Resolution 2216.
