H. E. Mr. Nabil Fahmy meets with President of the Libyan Presidential Council

H. E. Mr. Nabil Fahmy, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, met with Mr. Mohamed Al-Menfi, President of the Libyan Presidential Council, on the sidelines of his participation in the high-level meetings of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The meeting addressed the latest developments in Libya and efforts to advance the political settlement process and achieve security and stability in the country, Mr Fahmy reaffirmed the League of Arab States’ steadfast position in support of Libya, stressing the need to preserve its sovereignty, independence, national unity and territorial integrity, and rejecting interference in its internal affairs.

Mr Fahmy reiterated the League of Arab States’ support for a Libyan-led and Libyan-owned political process based on dialogue and consensus among Libyan parties, contributing to an end to the transitional phases, the unification of state institutions and the creation of the conditions conducive to holding presidential and legislative elections.

He emphasised the League’s readiness to continue its efforts to bridge differences and strengthen national consensus in a manner that responds to the aspirations of the Libyan people for security, stability and development.
