H. E. Mr. Nabil Fahmy meets with Mauritanian Foreign Minister on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly

H. E. Mr. Nabil Fahmy, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, met on 23 September with Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, on the sidelines of the high-level meetings of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

His Excellency Mr Nabil Fahmy, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, met on 23 September with Mr Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, on the sidelines of the high-level meetings of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The meeting addressed Arab and regional developments, foremost among them developments in the Palestinian cause, the Gaza Strip, the Sahel region, and their regional repercussions.

The two sides stressed the importance of intensifying coordination on issues of common interest, with a view to harmonising Arab positions in various international forums.

Mr Merzoug stressed the importance of the League of Arab States to his country and the role it plays in advancing joint Arab action, He expressed Mauritania's interest in the vision and ideas put forward by the Secretary-General since assuming office in July to develop the League’s working mechanisms and enhance its role in addressing various Arab issues.
