H. E. Mr. Nabil Fahmy affirms importance of bolstering Arab cooperation in communications, science and technology during meeting with Iraqi communications minister.

H E Mr. Nabil Fahmy, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, received Mr. Mustafa Sanad, Minister of Communications of the Republic of Iraq, on 26 August.

The meeting addressed ways to strengthen cooperation among Arab States in the fields of communications, science and technology.

The Secretary-General received a briefing from Mr. Sanad about Iraq's progress in developing its communications sector, its efforts to secure membership of the Council of the International Telecommunication Union, and its hope for the support of its fellow Arab States in obtaining such membership.

Mr. Fahmy expressed the League of Arab States' support for this endeavour and encouraged Arab States to play a leading role in this field, particularly given their scientific and human-resource capabilities and the notable achievements some have made in this area.

These capabilities, he noted, provide a strong basis for developing an integrated approach that serves Arab interests.

Mr. Fahmy reaffirmed the League’s commitment to continuing cooperation with the Iraqi Government across various fields and in all areas that contribute to strengthening joint Arab action.
