Aboul Gheit, in call with President Salam, reaffirms solidarity with government and its decisions, condemns brutal Israeli assault

Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, held a telephone call with President of the Lebanese Government Dr Nawaf Salam, during which he renewed his full solidarity with Lebanon in the face of the brutal and barbaric Israeli aggression it is enduring.

He affirmed the necessity of including Lebanon in the ceasefire agreement recently reached between the United States and Iran.

Mr. Aboul Gheit also listened to the assessment of the President of the Lebanese Government of the difficult situation facing the country as a result of the continuing Israeli attacks.

He expressed his support for the courageous decisions taken by the Lebanese government to strengthen the full authority of the state over Beirut Governorate and to confine the possession of arms exclusively to legitimate state forces, stressing the importance of the Lebanese state and army fulfilling their responsibilities in this regard.

Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesperson for the Secretary-General, stated that Mr. Aboul Gheit also conveyed to President Salam his support for the government’s decision to engage in negotiations aimed at reaching a lasting solution to the issue facing Lebanon with Israel, expressing his hope that all relevant parties would commit to creating the appropriate conditions to bring these efforts to fruition and ensure their success.
